We study how digital platforms can choose competitive strategies to influence the number of multihoming consumers. Platforms compete for consumers and advertisers. A platform earns a premium from advertising singlehomers, as it is gatekeeper these Competitive leading intense competition on consumer side reduce profits that side, but also increase singlehoming hence market power over The size determines where this strategy ‘seesaw’ will end up. apply insight four strategic choices may singlehoming: reducing product differentiation, portfolio diversification through conglomerate mergers, choice compatibility tying.
